India's Research Station"Himadri" at Arctic |
Indian research base in the Arctic region was officially inaugurated by the Union minister for Earth Science Sri Kapil Sibal on July,1,2008 at Ny-Alesund.
The base named "Himadri" would be equipped with state of the art facilities and will conduct round the year scientific research in contemporary fields of Arctic science with special emphasis on climate change. The station will be maintained by the
National Centre for Antarctic & Ocean Research (NCAOR), Goa.

Launching of new Journal “Indian Landslides” |

Geohazards including landslides is an arena where earth scientists plays important role. With a view to highlight the landslide and other related studies in India, a new journal "Indian Landslides" has been launched. It

The Society of Earth Scientists
'Join hands together for safer Earth' |
The Society of Earth Scientists (SES) has been constituted by a core group of Earth Scientists (registered under the societies act) with the following objectives:
· To provide a single platform for all Earth Scientists above the discipline and organizational boundaries
· To promote solidarity, mutual cooperation and understanding among Earth Scientists
· To activate interdisciplinary researches
· To work for the larger interests of earth science community
· To bring benefits of earth science researches to the society
e-journal Earth Science India and its related publications will be under the umbrella of SES. The core group of SES will work for the constitution of a National Committee to fulfill its objectives at national and international level.
All Earth Scientists are eligible for membership. There is no membership fee. Membership is of three types:
Fellow: Scientists having more than five years of professional experience (FSES).
Associate: A postgraduate in any discipline of earth sciences having professional experience of less than five years (ASES).
Student Member: Students of postgraduate may also become member.

Advances in Earth Sciences-Series |
We are happy to announce that the scientific papers appearing in the Quarterly Technical issues of the Earth Science India will be published by The Society of Earth Scientists at the end of every year as Advances in Earth Sciences-Series (an edited volume). Satish Serial Publishing House, Delhi ( www. ) has agreed to publish these volumes. Hence, authors of ESI will have dual opportunity- to be on web for three months and then in prints. This arrangement is made to fulfill the objective of ESI- quick dissemination of scientific researches across the Globe. The articles of the Popular issues are also planned to be published as separate books for students and common people. Please avail these opportunities. |
| Postal Stamp Designing Contest |
The Society of Earth
Scientists (SES) is organizing a ‘Postal Stamp designing contest'. Out of
all the entries we receive till 30th May'08 (date extended up to 15 August,2008), four designs will be selected by a panel of judges. These designs will be awarded as below and forwarded to The Government of India with the request to publish them as a set of Indian Postal Stamps to commemorate International Year of Planet Earth.
- Participation is open to all who are interested in our planet.
- You can send hand drawings or computer generated drawings. Send them by post (see Contact us for address)or mail high resolution jpeg images as attachments to india.ses@gmail.com
