First about our e-Journal (sounds a bit selfish!!), it now comes up with all technical papers of previous volumes under 'Archival' for wider circulation, referencing and indexing. The second volume of the book "Advances in Earth Sciences" is now on stands and please see good field photographs of kimberlite pipes of Anantpur district, A.P., sent by Dr. Rameshchandra Phani apart from interesting technical and popular articles in this issue.

         The 'World Environment Day' passed while I was in the interior part of West Sikkim and seeing the concern of local people and young students rallying in streets and before petrol pumps to 'Save Environment' in largely an environment friendly state (with lush green forests, no use of plastic and of course beautiful flowers in each home) but still awake!! During the leisure time, I was reading a review of the book "Of Poverty and Plastic" by Kaveri Gill written by Amita Baviskar in Outlook. I quote "Scavenging, sorting and recycling are dirty, risky jobs. But they are as essential to cities as vultures....., the people who perform these crucial services are regarded with disgust.....Yet it is this recycling industry that is helping save EARTH." Chintan, a Delhi NGO working with these people, have shown how recycling contributes to lowering carbon emission by reducing demand for 'virgin' products? Some more food for thought on this day by Dr. Rameshwar Bali on 'Himalayan Glaciers and Global Warming' in Forum. Pl write to us your views.
